Are We a Good Fit?

It is crucial when choosing a pediatric practice for your children that you have given serious consideration to the fit between the practice philosophies and your own.

Excellent care happens when the physicians and office staff are aligned with your family priorities and philosophies regarding medical care. Only then can shared decision-making be based on mutual respect.

Please read the following checklist carefully to be sure we are the appropriate medical home for your children.

We look forward to meeting you and forming a mutually rewarding relationship.

  • Vaccines
  • Billing and Fees

Insurance copays are expected to be paid at the time of service. If you are unable to comply, you should notify the person making the appointment prior to the visit.

  • Medical Home

We work hard to provide comprehensive medical care and serve as your medical home. To that end, we strongly encourage you to contact our office FIRST before seeking specialty care, or heading to another provider for urgent care. (For possible sudden life-threatening emergencies, call 911 first.) We want to be involved in either providing care in our office when appropriate, or referring you to the most appropriate specialist and helping to coordinate your care.

Whenever you do see a specialist, we ask that you request a report be sent directly to our office so we may stay informed and have the most up-to-date information in your medical record.

  • Scheduling Appointments

For sick visits, acute care and urgent issues, call the office to speak with our staff, who will listen to your concerns and schedule an appointment for you.

Sometimes an appointment may not be needed, and the staff or providers will advise you regarding your issue. If you still feel that you want your child seen, let us know and we will schedule an appointment. If a call back from a provider is required and you don't receive a call back within a reasonable period of time, please call the office again to share your concerns. If your child is sick, it is best to call as early in the day as possible so we can schedule a convenient appointment time and still have time to get any needed outside tests or consults.

For well visits, sports physicals and nonurgent issues, call our office during regular office hours.

  • After Hours

We have a physician on call 24/7/365. When our office is closed overnight or on weekends and you have an urgent issue that cannot wait until regular office hours, you can call our main number 410-795-7300 and you will be directed to the provider on-call who will give you advice regarding your child's problem. If you leave a message with the answering service requesting a call back from the provider on call and you do not get a call back within a reasonable period of time, please call again. If, for some reason, the main number does not pick-up, call our answering service directly at 866-326-6300.

  • Antibiotics

We work hard to not overuse antibiotics. We educate families on appropriate use of antibiotics, but follow evidence-based guidelines and don’t automatically treat ear pain or a green congested nose with antibiotics.

We do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone as we do not believe that is good medicine. We will prescribe an antibiotic when we believe it is an appropriate treatment.

  • Insurance

We participate with most insurance plans. Make sure we participate with your insurance plan.

It is your responsibility to know the limits and coverage of your particular health insurance policy, to show your cards to us at each visit, and be prepared to pay any copays at the time of service.

Our billing staff will do their best to assist you with insurance questions; however, if you have questions about your coverage, it is best to check with your specific insurance company.

Our office does not want you to be surprised by a bill, but we must always bill your health plan based on federal guidelines and the actual services provided.

Please call our office if you need more information regarding insurance.

  • Timeliness & Missed Appointments

Our practice makes every effort to run on time with appointments, as we believe everyone’s time is equally valuable.

As a courtesy, we will usually remind you of your upcoming appointments via phone, text message or email.

We ask that you arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. If you are scheduled for a physical or have forms that require completion, please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. We understand sometimes things happen beyond your control that may cause you to be late. However, we reserve the right to ask you to reschedule or wait to be "worked in" if you arrive late for your appointment.

Missed Appointments: Broken appointments represent a cost or inconvenience to us, to you, and to other patients who could have been seen in the time set aside for you. We reserve the right to charge a fee for canceled or missed appointments. We request 24 hours notice for cancellation of appointments. A fee may be charged for a second missed appointment. The third consecutive missed appointment could result in discharge from the practice.
